Royal Palm

South Beach, Miami

Virgin rating

The hotel

An inspiring oceanfront beach retreat, the Royal Palm offers modern, vibrant living whilst keeping intact many signature elements of the original Art Deco design. Rooms are gorgeous, with stunning city or ocean views, rich linen robes to relax in and organic bath products. When you’re not out and about sightseeing or strutting your stuff down at the beach, relax by one of the two pools, a cocktail in one hand, a good book in the other. There’s also a state-of-the-art fitness centre and Renew Spa based on Himalayan salt with six treatment rooms. There are restaurants all around you but for good eats look no further than Florida Cookery, the hotel’s signature restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For cocktails, South Shore is definitely one of the places to be seen.

My husband and I spent four nights at the Royal Palm. I want to start off by saying that the location is great. It’s so easy to just walk onto the beach and your resort fee covers two chairs. That being said, you still have to pay for an umbrella $25 a day. Kind of silly that that’s not included in the resort fee. Before I get into the actual… Read more
My husband and I spent four nights at the Royal Palm. I want to start off by saying that the location is great. It’s so easy to just walk onto the beach and your resort fee covers two chairs. That being said, you still have to pay for an umbrella $25 a day. Kind of silly that that’s not included in the resort fee. Before I get into the actual hotel, I want to shout out Pedro at Florida cookery! What a shining light in this hotel. Every morning, his energy was just out of level 10 and so polite and caring. Even when we were seated in someone else’s section, he came over a couple times just to make sure me and my husband had everything we needed. I really enjoyed Pedro and I hope that he is treated very well by Management. Let me get into the room itself. I have platinum status and redeemed my four guaranteed suite night upgrades. I was given what is kind of like a one bedroom corner suite. When I checked in, The person at the front said that he was going to upgrade our room instead of the classic King. Not at this property but at another Marriott property this has happened before where I redeemed a sweet night upgrade and then all of a sudden someone at the front downgraded my room because they said I would prefer the space of the downgrade. So of course I stopped him and said wait a minute. I already had a sweet night upgrade. He glossed over it. Basically what it was was him acting like I didn’t just use my sweet night upgrades and out of the kindness of his heart upgraded my room. When we get to the room, I scour the room for a mini fridge. None provided. In fact what they have is a mini fridge that is totally stocked with a mini bar that is censored. If that’s not enough, they have a whole tray of snacks and drinks above also censored. You can’t ask to clear out the mini bar and the sign clearly indicates that you cannot use the mini fridge for personal reasons. That’s all fine except that some people need a mini fridge for health reasons. People who are diabetic, or breast-feeding mothers who need to place to store their breastmilk. I have not been to a hotel that does not provide a mini fridge and only a mini bar since 2009. I requested a mini fridge but of course I was informed they’ll have to put me on a waitlist. my room also did not come with a hairdryer. I had to request that as well. The furniture in this room was quite possibly the most uncomfortable furniture I have ever sat on. The “sofa” was a narrow wooden bench with cushions on it and a wood backing. My husband was in so much back pain by the end of our trip. There is a ergonomic looking chair that’s in the room that is solo of the ground and so stiff that my husband had to actually help me out of the chair. And finally at the dining room table there was one other wooden chair, not even two in case we wanted to eat in the room. God forbid there are leftovers because there’s no fridge to put them in. I am Pregnant and my back was on fire. You think that they would have remodeled in 2012 and included actual comfortable furniture. The staff at the individual restaurants and bars were so attentive and so kind. I have nothing negative to say. My entire negative experience was quite honestly with the room itself. I am willing to bet that the same uncomfortable furniture and personal fridge situation is in every single other room. I took photos of all the uncomfortable furniture and the mini bar situation so everyone can be aware of what to expect. I don’t know if I would stay again but if I did, I would Expect, the hotel to make an accommodations To ensure my husband and I are comfortable guests at their property. Finally, there was this weird thing with my folio at the very end. I was charged for Internet despite being platinum status and then a telephone tax. I never use the phone so I did not understand why I was being taxed for a telephone. I would suggest that everyone check their folio to make sure Things like this aren’t slipped in at the end. Great location very close to the heart of South Beach. A mile walk from below fifth beach itself was very pretty. Some changes need to be made on the property to keep up with the times i.e. the minibar situation. Read less

Spent one night here due to a flight cancellation. In all fairness, the previous 5 nights were next door at the Lowe’s. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Bed was comfortable. Pool is decent. That said, this property is a bit tired. Could be so much better. I would have been disappointed to spend my whole week here. Breakfast… Read more

Same with the gym. Not what I expected from a Tribute Portfolio property. Read less

Good service with employees attentive to their guests, ready to handle any issues or requests you may have. Although some sheets and curtains was in need of some extra washing the hotel in its entirety felt fresh and clean. Special thanks to Christopher.

Upon check-in I was greeted by Boris who was friendly and knowledgeable about the property and the local area. He made sure I was taken care of and provided me with an excellent check-in experience. When I decided to extend my stay, he again went above and beyond to make sure that I received a room with all the amenities requested. He even sent complimentary welcome treats and check in personally to make sure everything was to my liking. The entire staff was fantastic, but I wanted to take the time to highlight Boris because he made me feel like a highlighted guest. Thank you, Boris! Read less

The beach staff, especially Fernando, was super friendly and accommodating every day! Always and smile and a warm greeting. This is our fifth time staying at the RP hotel and it will not be the last. The breakfast buffet is awesome and the staff friendly and professional as well. Great experience!
