Six Senses Samui

Koh Samui, Thailand

Virgin rating

The hotel

When you arrive at the Six Senses Samui the view is at once exhilarating and strangely familiar. The sweeping vista of palm-clustered islands and shimmering seas brings to mind all the fantasies we have of the Orient's beaches. The resort is made up of a stunning collection of bamboo-clad villas looking out over the Gulf of Thailand. At Six Senses there are only villas, most with a private swimming pool with polished wooden floor interiors. Following the renovation, all villas are fully enclosed and air-conditioned so there are no "open-air spaces" as such and the bathroom and bedroom have a sliding door that separates them. The restaurants and bars are open pavilions, deriving their aesthetic from the communal longhouses of traditional river communities. The view, the architecture, the style and even the temperature intentionally immerse the guest in the location. This is back to nature – without a hint of roughing it. Six Senses Samui gives you everything, including a comprehensive spa that offers every conceivable treatment in Asia.

We stayed 8 nights at Six Senses Samui for our honeymoon. What can I say, we will be back! This is by the far the nicest and most relaxing holiday we have had. The hotel goes above and beyond to accomodate every need. Starting with the staff, they were delightful from the minute we met them and they remembered our orders (coffee etc). The staff were very trust worthy, friendly and kind. We did a cooking class with “Mae”, a truly authentic fun experience and well priced given that you get to eat 3 courses of food. They give the recipes too. The resort room was fantastic. We were in a one bedroom pool ocean view villa. It exceeded our expectations. Beautiful view, anytime buggy and room service, multiple per day turn down the room service (cleaning in the morning and remake beds, get the villa ready to sleep by lowering mosquito nets and turning on mood candles at night). The bed was comfortable enough but was a joined 2 king singles - perhaps for a 5 star resort this could be upgraded to a pillow top to make it extra comfortable. The outdoor showers were a hit and very romantic. The pool was very clean, tranquil and private. The spa massages were worth every bit of the money and very good value for the quality. The massage rooms are individual ocean view rooms - royalty! We ate at “dinner on the hill” multiple times with a mix of the Thai buffet and A La carte and we just kept going back for more! The food was top notch quality and tasty. The wine options were great. The room service menu was fantastic and well priced considering the quality. I would highly recommend the soft shell crab lichee salad, Tom yung goong curry, Crab yellow curry, and massaman curry. The finishing touches of cool towels and complimentary drinks throughout our stay made it memorable and made us feel special. The breakfast buffet was generous and of high quality. Ranging from homemade fresh pastries (the nicest we have ever had), homegrown broad fruit range, noodle soup bar, Thai and European Brekky options, with daily specials, the restaurant just oozed elegance and style. I would highly recommend the Pad Grapow off the A La carte breakfast menu and the various pastries. The daily complimentary ice cream from 3-5pm was a lovely touch and exactly what was needed on the warm days enjoying the holiday life. The gym was good. Perhaps the only thing could be the daily yoga classes had more time slots for the early birds (7.30am) as we found 8.30am a little late for us. Each to their own though. You can also hire motorbikes through the hotel for a good price and trusted company. The “drift on the beach” bar was great to chill and had happy hour most days. Cocktails were very creative and enjoyable. A special mention to our GEM “Aum”, restaurant staff “Dada” and friendly hard working manager “T” for making our experience at Six Senses Samui extra special. We will be back. Read less

In terms of could do better, the beach area Drift could be better used in the evening as an alternative eating area - it is equally excellent and stunning. Read less

We completely fell in love with the Six Senses Samui resort. The private villas with pools were spectacular for watching the sunrise, while in the afternoons, we enjoyed watching the sunset from the main infinity pool. Another highlight was the Guest Experience Maker who was always ready to help or advise us.

Beautiful resort with meticulous attention to detail throughout. The integration of natural materials in a beautiful environment enhances the serene vibe. The food at Six Senses Samui was excellent, featuring a great buffet breakfast and wonderful Thai food. The service was impeccable, with the staff going out of their way to accommodate our wants while being unobtrusive. Unlike many hotels, there was no open tab for tipping on every bill, which I found very refreshing, Set on a secluded hill, the resort offered stunning views of the Gulf of Thailand. The combination of lush greenery and the sparkling sea provided a picture-perfect backdrop that was absolutely Instagram-worthy. However, our stay was somewhat lessened by a few significant issues. The resort's beach is shared with another hotel, which, during our visit, resulted in a less peaceful atmosphere than we had anticipated. The constant noise from jet skis was a significant disturbance, detracting from the tranquility we sought at the resort. Additionally, the view from the beach was impacted by the encroaching new apartments and villas, detracting from the resort’s secluded feel. This development, visible from the beach, undermined the sensation of being in a remote paradise, which is one of the charms we were looking forward to. The infinity pool is absolutely stunning, boasting spectacular sea views. It should have been a haven of relaxation. However, the presence of groups of children at times made it less serene. I believe the resort could enhance the experience for all guests by managing this area more effectively, perhaps by setting specific times for children or restricting their access to the beach pool. These factors combined—the shared beach with its noise disturbances and the visual intrusion of nearby construction—somewhat marred what would otherwise have been an impeccable stay at this luxurious retreat. There are not enough words to describe how amazing my experience in SS Samui was and how much i recommend this hotel, a few notes: 1- the staff: they care and are genuine. And as someone who travels all year long, this is something you can tell right away, there is no faking a real heart. And these people genuinely care and want to go above an beyond to take care of the guests. Also, the manager Marieke is wonderful! Super sweet and also deeply cares about the island and its people. 2- the food: amazing!! I am on a strict food intolerance diet and a bit of a pain of a client when it comes to food and the Chef made sure i was always well taken care of and the food was SO good!!! No complaints 3- the rooms: clean, beautiful views and have everything you need. 4- the views are amazing!! Especially the sunset. 5- spa: wow!! The treatment rooms all have amazing ocean view and the massages were all wonderful. Also, during my stay i had an accident by the rocks on the beach and the hotel staff took me to the hospital every day and stayed with me, as i was travelling alone. Again, i will never have enough words of gratitude :) Thank you Six Senses Samui!! Read less
