Spanning 22-acres of oceanfront, adjacent to Keauhou Bay, this truly special resort offers a perfect location for an authentic Hawaiian experience. Most of the resort overlooks the ocean and feature beautiful colours and prints created by renowned Hawaii designer, Sig Zane. Another highlight is the fantasy pool, set on several different levels and dramatically nestled along the ocean’s lava cliffs — it really is unequalled in all of Hawaii, something we don’t say lightly! Kids will love the 200-foot winding waterslide at the oceanfront lagoon pool.

The hotel is severely under staffed. If you go to dinner, the restaurant is 80% empty but they can’t seat you because they have a single server. The bar staff seem to hate to work here and treat guests accordingly: they ignore you, no acknowledgement like “I’ll be right with you”, they avoid eye contact until they get to you eventually. This happened every time we were at the bar. One time when they finally got to me so I could order the fish tacos, turns out they did not have fish tacos. How can the planning at this hotel that they don’t have fish in Hawaii! In any case the food is broadly bad. The cafe staff are friendly and attentive. Some of the best rooms are in front of the pool full of screaming children until 10PM every night. The room balconies seem to amplify the sound and the room windows have zero sound proofing. Also, our premium room has an AC system that sounds like an old broken fan and the toilet runs constantly. The location of this hotel is great, it could be such a nice hotel but it seems very poorly managed. It’s as if people without any hotel experience stumbled upon an abandoned hotel (this used to be a Sheraton) and are attempting to run it.

Outrigger Kona not for gluten free (celiac) people but beautiful property

This property is beautiful. Do yourself a favour and get an ocean front room on the manta side. It’s quiet and you see manta rays feeding at night. Kim at the pool side bar was great. NOT many gluten free options and staff not knowledgeable about it so get a car and eat off property

We loved staying at the Outrigger hotel. I stayed with my 5 and 7 year old for a vacation trip. We had a room with 2 double beds and a balcony that had a partial view of the ocean. It was beautiful! The staff went above and beyond. Kiara at the front desk was very helpful with our check-in process. My kids are still wearing the shells we were gifted. We spent a lot of time at the kids pool, and according to my kids, they went down the slide thousands of times. The attendants at the top of the slide were awesome and fun to talk to. They also gave great advice to come up to the top of the slide to get pictures of the sunset. (Genius advice!). The location of the hotel was great because we wanted to spend a day on the east side of the island and beaches that were north of Outrigger. The housekeeping were also very kind and helpful.

Kim at Holua Restaurant was a wonderful waitress... she was very friendly, very helpful and attentive. She paid personal attention to each one of us and made us feel very welcome. The second day she remembered us and our names which made us feel appreciated!
