The Royal at Atlantis

Nassau, Bahamas

Virgin rating

The hotel

Throwing you into the full Atlantis experience, The Royal is as legendary as the myths that inspired and infuse them. The architecture, the artwork, the adventures — each have a cheeky nod to the Lost City of Atlantis, but the well-dressed rooms and suites are a little less kitsch, coming with French or full balconies and views over the terraces, water, or harbour. Their spot on Atlantis Paradise Island puts you right by Atlantis Casino and at the heart of the world’s largest outdoor ‘marine habitat’ — with 14 lagoons and more than 50,000 aquatic residents, from sharks to barracuda. The island’s other fabled fun’s yours for the taking too, whether its experiencing rides or slides at the 141-acre Aquaventure waterscape; snorkelling the ‘ruins’ at Atlantis; or kicking back at one of its 21 restaurants and 19 bars.

We stayed in the Royal West. The room was great. On our first full day we had massages in the morning and the playtime with the dolphins in the afternoon. We had dinner at the Seafire Steakhouse. The food was fabulous. We definitely will be coming back.

I truly enjoyed the view which transformed the imagination to a place of calm imagination. Upon entry to the Royal Tower, the flying horses lift ones spirits immediately. The Barbie display inside and the fish Aquarium are a welcome sight before one experiences the Poseidon's Throne.

Extremely limited food options and many restaurants were listed as open online but closed after walking 15m to get there. Initial booking seems cheap until they added on $800+ in resort fees for three people in a queen room. Food selection is limited and mediocre in quality. Stale fries, sea conch. Live piano was promised in one restaurant on thursdays but nothing was played. No vending machines or late night food choices. Be prepared to pay $4 for a can of soda. Our first night the pizza restaurant selling cheap low quality pizza was packed out the door because virtually nothing else was open. Outside of the resort the island is a scary looking place I would not want to travel. Until they upgrade the dining experience this resort is a hard no. Read less

The rooms were fairly basic, like a regular hotel and not a fancy resort. The food service was extremely slow, the food was expensive and mediocre. There was a lot to do on the resort, the Waterpark, aquarium and beaches were the highlight. This resort is great for kids, but too expensive for what you're getting.

Let me start by saying that this place used to be great but is going down fast. My mother has a timeshare over at the Harborside resort which my wife and I along with my 4 year old daughter were planning to stay in but upon check in we found out that the restaurant there along with the pool were closed for renovations. This instantly threw off our trip as we had purchased food for delivery from instagopher so that we could spend certain days just at Harborside by the pool. After one day there we decided to move over to the Royal for 4 nights from 11/11 - 11/15 so that we didn’t need to either walk for 20-30 minutes to the closest pool or take the bus which is hit or miss in terms of when it comes. Upon entering our ocean view room the floor was wet from god knows what considering there was no mini fridge in the unit. There was a weird smell also coming from the room but due to having our daughter with us we didn’t feel like walking all the way back down to reception to handle. Once we started to walk around the resort we quickly realized how many places were closed on random days or for good. At the Marina village both carmines and burger shack were closed for the week which was disheartening. Poseidon’s table is also only available certain nights for dinner so it was a struggle planning the day and we instead opted to just eat quick service most of the time. Don’t get me started on the prices as they were absurd. The hospitality of the staff is subpar to say the least, as you are barely greeted and often times it seems as if you are annoying them by even being there. If I could rate this zero stars I would as the experience was awful. My mother has been a timeshare owner for 20 years and it’s disgusting how they treat them and their guests. If you have an option to stay elsewhere (Baha Mar comes to mind) then I would absolutely take it. This place is not what it used to be and should be a last resort option for anyone looking to come to the Bahamas. Read less
