*Worst resort I have ever stayed at...RUN!!!!** This is the absolute worst resort I have ever had the misfortune of staying at in my entire life. I usually don't bother with reviews, but this place is so atrocious that I felt compelled to warn others. Giving this property even a single star is a gross overstatement; it deserves zero stars. Whoever rates this place higher must be completely delusional. We were coming from a spectacular five-star experience at Hermitage Bay, which was phenomenal. Unfortunately, our flight got canceled, and American Airlines stuck us in this dump. The food is utterly inedible. Both of us got violently ill from the garbage they dared to call meals. The room was revolting—absolutely filthy. It was already disgusting, and then we found giant spiders crawling around. The ceiling looked like it was ready to collapse with every passing second. The service is equally horrendous. We requested a bottle of water to be delivered to our room, and they flat-out refused, telling us to drink from the sink. Seriously, what kind of place tells their guests to drink tap water in a resort? Their main restaurant, if you can even call it that, is a joke. This establishment doesn't deserve to stay in business. If you're considering booking here, save yourself the agony and run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. RUN RUN RUN! This property is definitely paying people to rate them above a 1 garbage Read less

Loved the new features of the beach pool, coffee shop and the sports bar…overall it was really fantastic. Crowds were down which meant at some times it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The staff were lovely and it was great to meet the new GM and have some fab conversations. We look forward to returning in the future and can’t wait to once again ‘do nothing’… Read less

My last visit to Antigua was in July of 2019 with 11 family members, and the experience was wonderful. The island is such a paradise to visit and we looked forward to seeing some local friends, changes made to the island and The Verandah where we staying. The first noticeable change on the island was at the airport. It was completely redone and nicely upgraded. The changes made to it helped a lot from baggage claim to taxi service. The taxi from the airport revealed how lush the landscape was. Upon arrival at check-in, we were greeted with a welcome drink and moist towel. There is a new place for coffee, exchange books, and relaxing lounge chair in the pool, water sports and snacks. The staff was friendly, accommodating and worked hard to make our stay a pleasant one. Wonderful resort. The food was exceptional and there were many options available. I loved the pizza and seafood restaurant. The rooms were large and clean. My only negative was the restaurant on the beach had mosquitoes. The beach in the neighboring property is lovely and you can get day passes to go and have access to the food and drink there.

I wanted to love this resort and everything about Antigua, but my husband I were left disappointed at every turn. I’ll start with the good. The pizza was fresh and the beer was cold. The tennis and pickleball courts were new. The main pool had a great area with partially submerged lounge chairs. And Rowan was a smiling face that stood out around the property. That’s it. The “renovated” rooms were damp and had poor circulation (even if the window unit was set to full blast!). Honestly, if you needed to spend more than two minutes in the bathroom with the door closed, you ran the risk of heat exhaustion! The sheets didn’t fit the mattress. The tv picked up a few channels, but each were so pixelated that you had to guess what was playing. And the power went out multiple times every day. The “beaches” were very small and towels were virtually impossible to find. The resort sits on a peninsula within a bay, which limits the waves but also limits the breeze. As a result, nobody uses the patios/balconies of their rooms, because they were miserable after about 30 seconds. While the water was pretty, the view above the waters was rundown and littered with abandoned buildings. Not the picturesque views on the website and/or those that were promised. There are a few pools throughout the vast property, but most of them are very small in size. The largest (and most resort-like) pool has ZERO umbrellas and/or cabanas to sit under. What it does have is a series of man-built structures that contain glass/clear rooftops for coverage. These cause the sun to be magnified as opposed to shielded, as the glass roofs amplify the heat and create a sauna feeling … exactly what you don’t want at the pool! The food and drinks were the second most disappointing aspects of the resort. I’ve included multiple pictures, but note that the “premium” alcohol consisted primarily of liquors served out of plastic bottles. By the second day, I was able to at least request Bacardi or Smirnoff … and these were the most premium alcohols they had available. The food, whether at the “beachy” restaurants, buffets, or “high end” offerings, was almost exclusively terrible. We ate pizzas and otherwise survived on grilled vegetables and snacks we’d saved from the plane. It was that bad. My husband and I joked that we felt like we were at “fat camp” … the food was so bad that nobody was eating it, and we sat outside sweating and drinking water … we both lost weight! While our experience with the “product” offered by the Verandah was disappointing, perhaps the most surprising letdown of our trip was the service. Staff seemed putout by any request. Nobody was smiling and everyone seemed upset to be there. At times, it felt like they were being held against their wills, which made us uncomfortable. We wanted to love this place … but to say that this was one of the worst travel experiences of our lives would be an understatement. Read less
