My sixteen year old daughter and I stayed in a 2 double bed premium city view . The room was adequately sized for the 2 of us but I can see how it would feel a bit of a squeeze if there were 4 people in there . Our room was on the 33rd floor . Check in at 3.30 pm was quick and simple . The security deposit taken was around £160 and was refunded by then time we boarded our flight . The room was clean and beds comfortable . There was a small fridge in the room , a coffee maker ( although only 2 cups ), an ironing board and iron , a free safe and a shower which worked perfectly . We had no problems with getting a lift down or up ( I think it may have been more problematic on the lower floors as by the time the lift got that far down . The hotel is well located for the subway , Times Square and a 15 minute walk from Empire State Building . There are lots of homeless clearly very mentally unwell people on substances throughout New York City , and the area around the hotel is not unique . They were not aggressive or confronting towards us however . My criticisms would be - although there were lots of towels in the room they were rock hard . The air con worked well but was noisy . As with any hotel, there are pros and cons to this particular hotel. Pros: Centrally located; within walking distance to Times Square, Port Authority, Penn Station, and Grand Central Station. Bedding is comfortable. Decent size television. Our room had a pretty good view of the city. Cons: Where do I begin?! Room was very small and bathroom was even smaller. It was supposed to sleep four, but there is no way 4 people could fit all their belongings in that room! There were only 4 small drawers and about 8 hanger. Very little space to store luggage. Not family friendly: No bathtub, sink too small to bathe an infant, you may or may not get a mini-fridge, no microwave. Towels were small, thin, and very rough. Our shower curtain was hung too high, which caused water to flood our bathroom each time we showered. Once we used our 2 coffee cups for the in-room coffee maker, we were not provided with more coffee cups. In the entire hotel, the only working ice machine was on the 10th floor (out of over 30 floors). Read less

The location of the hotel was great. Everything in the room was clean. The bellman, Sonam, was very helpful with getting our stuff as well as valeting our vehicle. He also had great tips on nearby spots to eat. Our only issue was that our room’s A/C didn’t seem to work. It would just circulate the room temperature air around.

It falls far short of the basic standards you would expect from any hotel, let alone a DoubleTree. The front desk looks nice, but that's about it. The rooms are terrible. Our first room, a double twin, was very dirty, filthy, with bugs coming out of the sink, graffiti on the walls, tiny, and smelled damp. We complained and were offered a move the next day, but the new room was still dirty with bugs. The worst part was an old comb brush with hair and nits left in the bathroom, which was absolutely disgusting and unhygienic. We complained again and were offered food vouchers and a deep clean. This wasn't acceptable, especially after two disruptions. They finally offered a 50% refund. We thought this would resolve the issues, but things just got worse. The restaurant, especially breakfast, had rude and unhelpful staff. It was supposed to be a buffet, but they charged extra for things like bacon. The quality of the food was not good. The rooftop bar was closed despite being advertised at the time of booking. There was construction work at the front of the hotel, and the general look of the hotel was shabby. The elevators were slow, and there was no ice on our floor. The location is near Times Square, but on a sketchy street with garbage everywhere. The area is too busy and seems very polluted. This hotel should not be a Hilton. A traveler hostel would be 10 times better. Read less

No resort fees but $50 daily deposit refunded on check out. We really enjoyed our stay. Loved that our luggage was stored on arrival and departure free of charge. Two Bros pizza right next door. There were a few homeless people around but didn’t bother us and we felt safe at all times. We will definately stay again. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Read less
