The hotel

The Roosevelt is Hollywood's only historic hotel still in operation today. It hosted the first ever Academy Awards in 1929 and has seen throngs of people - including celebrities galore - pass through its doors. The hotel has even been featured in a few films and Shirley Temple took her first tap-dancing lesson on the tiled stairway! As if that's not enough, Montgomery Clift and Marilyn Monroe are reputed to haunt the joint - proof this place is too good to leave!

This is my favourite hotel. The experience you have at The Roosevelt is second to none. The rooms are comfortable, if on the small side, but the mini suites and above are spacious. The Byredo toiletries are a lovely touch. Best of all are the people on reception who always make checking in easy and seamless. A particular call out to Cody for… Read more

A particular call out to Cody for making guests feel so welcome, regaling us with stories about the historic Roosevelt and genuinely going out of his way to make the time a wonderful experience. He's a fantastic ambassador for the hotel and I can't wait to come back next year. Read less

This is my hotel of choice in Los Angeles. Check-In was swift and easy and my bags were delivered to my room within a few minutes. The room was very comfortable and clean. Housekeeping were very friendly and efficient. The central location is ideal and quiet, despite being on Hollywood Boulevard. Make time to discover the history of the hotel. I… Read more

I want to commend Cody M., a security officer at the hotel. He was so kind and knowledgable and told me some wonderful anecdotes about the hotel history. This was above and beyond his job and it meant so much to me. He is a first-class employee and I thank him deeply for his time and for caring so much about my experience and the story of the… Read more

Wow. This has to be the best hotel in Hollywood. We had booked the Roosevelt suite because we like a little bit of space and the room was amazing. Heaps of room for the sofa bed and a rollaway bed. Wow. This has to be the best hotel in Hollywood. We had booked the Roosevelt suite because we like a little bit of space and the room was amazing. Heaps of room for the sofa bed and a rollaway bed. But the best thing about this hotel is the staff. We were visiting from Australia and visited many places but the service from the team at this hotel surpassed any other. We 1st dealt with Robert in reservations, then Nicolas in concierge, and Rocco in the Bell boy team (I hope that’s the correct terminology). Robert was amazing making sure our reservations were all in order. He even sent us cookies when we arrived. And they were the best that we tasted in America. Nicolas is one of my most favourite people that I unfortunately didn’t meet as we were so busy. He organised transport for us all around Hollywood and to Anaheim for a hockey game. Our trip would have been so much more stressful without him. And then we have Rocco. I hope I have spelt your name correctly my friend. What a gentleman. What an absolute professional. He treated us like we were famous. I’ll remind you that we are from a small town in Australia. Rocco we will remember you for the rest of our lives. Thank you for the private tour of the hotel including the rooftop with the perfect view of the Hollywood sign. This was our “Once in a lifetime” trip and you made it so much better. You Sir, are one of the highlights of our trip. I’ve spoken so much about the staff but I can’t neglect the room. It was amazing and large and clean and the next time we are in Hollywood I’ll be booking the same hotel and room. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. 5 out of 5. Read less

As a Hollywood history buff, it's hard to resist checking out the residence of Marilyn Monroe (and allegedly home to her ghost), the site of so many famous soirees, and the home of the first Oscars. Like the rest of Hollywood Boulevard, it's much more mundane than I expected. The location of the first Oscars looks like any hotel conference room. The rooftop pool (seen on the TCM intros) is still preserved from the days of Hollywood's golden era and it affords quite a view. I'd give it a 4 stars as a Hollywood buff, but probably three stars if you're a little less interested in Hollywood history. Read less
