The hotel

If you like historic charm and classic character but want modern high-tech touches too, the Mark Hopkins may hit the spot. The hotel is pretty central too, so you’ll be close to many of the city's hotspots. Be sure to pop up to the 19th floor lounge for a sunset cocktail or a nightcap, as you gaze out over the skyline, bay and Golden Gate Bridge. The lounge has a dance floor and live music on some nights, so you may stay longer than you plan to.

The concierge was very helpful and organise a great tour, where I was able to relax for a moment in a Forrest and enjoyed a Napa Valley wine experience. I enjoyed my time in San Francisco. The hotel is well located, if you enjoy history and old world charm. You will enjoy this hotel. My only complaint is the shower, because this is not a modern building. The bar Top of the Mark is worthy of a visit. I recommend walking shoes and walking Sam Francisco. Be weary those hills can be complex. The Golden Gate Bridge is worthy of a visit. San Francisco has this vibe, which I enjoyed. Claim chowder at fisherman’s warf a must. Read less

Amazing location, exceptional service. I originally planned to drop off my luggage in the morning, go sightseeing, and check in later that evening, but when I arrived at 10 am, the hotel had a room available! The lobby and hallways are beautiful. There is a small museum about the hotel in a lobby wing. There is also an ice-cold filtered water machine and a CVS vending machine for more specific hygienic needs. There are also a variety of dining options, which I did not use due to my own schedule, but I heavily considered. I had a standard king-size room, which came equipped with slippers, a robe, an umbrella, and a stocked mini bar, the first time I’ve ever seen one. I will say that the bathroom surprised me a bit. The toilet flushed strangely. Instead of water coming from the top of the bowl down, the water flushed from one side of the toilet drain to the other, so if you happened to leave your business on the sides of bowl, it wouldn’t get flushed away very well at all. Not sure if that was just my room specifically, or if all toilets are like that. Luckily I was only there for the night, otherwise I would have called for the bathroom to be refreshed. The hotel provides its own hand soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, however, the scent is very smoky. I sniffed it multiple times to make sure it wasn’t the room that smelled like cigarette smoke, and I confirmed it was the soap and shampoo itself. Kind of strange, but I had my own products as a backup. Overall, beautiful hotel, beautiful view, great in-hotel amenities, wonderful location, warm and friendly front desk staff, and a spacious room and bathroom. I was never once concerned for my safety at this hotel, which I know is a common concern for tourists in San Francisco. The hotel is also dog-friendly which is very cute to see. I would absolutely stay here again and will be recommending this hotel to friends and family visiting the area. Read less

The welcome from Ahmad and Tony was superb. I felt welcomed and special. After a long day, they took care of everything from bags to car. My Gold status was acknowledges. The suite was great with lots of room and great amenities that you’d expect out of an upscale hotel. The only downside was that the WIFI to the corner room was spotty. I had trouble connecting at the far side of the room. Also, the one in-house phone in the bedroom of this large suite was inconvenient Looking forward to next years trip and another stay Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Unwelcoming staff and dated policy

Staff has quite a terrible attitude and not very welcoming. (Check-in, room-service) The hotel does not allow food outside to be delivered up to the room, so the food will sit at the concierge and guests can to come down to get it directly. Room service is not allowed to take the food from lobby either due to policy.
