New York Marriott Downtown

Financial District, New York

Virgin rating

The hotel

An optimal location in Lower Manhattan, from here you can stroll to Battery Park, Brooklyn Bridge and One World Trade Center - and of course, you're not far from good old Lady Liberty. The hotel towers a mere 38 floors so you can expect some breathtaking views of Manhattan and the Hudson River, and you can also expect some seriously good food from Bill's Bar & Burger - from a hearty breakfast to a late-night cheeseburger (and some decent cocktails too).

We were there for a business conference, and the location was very clean, professional, and safe, There is a Starbucks in the lobby level of the hotel, which was very convenient. The rooms were updated and modern. I also liked the walkability to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the New York Stock Exchange, and various shopping and restaurants in the area. This location has very little street noise at night, and I would definitely stay here again. Read less

If there’s one way to indulge yourself, immerse into a flawless service, warmth and impeccable hospitality, New York Marriott Downtown is your one stop shop. There’s no better hotel by any yardstick, than this Marriott in the New York City or its five boroughs or Manhattan than this that offers just about everything you need — access to West & East village, Wall Street, Harbour view, Statue of Liberty view and superbly talented staff — Raaqima (front desk manager), Alexander ( director of housekeeping), Zhiming, Lanny who know their duties and responsibilities to the perfection. They go out of the way to help you explain your $30 credit voucher and $10 separate breakfast voucher. If you are a Bonvoy elite member above gold, you can enjoy extraordinary lounge services with expansive buffet spread of lip smacking snacks. Their rooms, with or withour upgrades, are flawless. The grey-electric blue tone is pleasing. What I like is the hotel takes extra care of your daily needs — slippers, bathroom amenities. I stayed 5 days during the UN visit between Sep 21-22 and 26-28. Each day was a memorable stay. The hotel has accces to Subways, fast food, night long walks and very particular about owning their rare shortcomings. I will stay here each time I visit New York. I will miss their in house music whether on phone during calls, or at Bills for breakfast. What an incredible leadership at New York Marriott Downtown. I wish them all the very best for maintaining high quality standards in their hotel everywhere. Regards Rohan Dua Read less

Such great staff! Everyone has been so nice here. Gloria, a trainee at front desk, was so kind to me and greeted me with a smile. Room is clean and quiet on high floor. Breakfast was decent in Bill’s Bar and Burger. Area around hotel has plenty of activity and restaurants. Happy with my stay.

$734 a night for a box room in a dump hotel. The positives are a decent equipped gym on the fifth floor and a couple good staff members like Cheryl at the front desk. Aside from that; it’s insane what they charge you can literally pay the same rate or less at the Langham, New York or the Loews, Regency for a true 4.5 to 5 star hotel- this place is gross and an absolute, utter rip off. Dirty throughout. The concierge lounge is pathetic; cold “hot” food offerings, limited, no signs and just horrible. Breakfast however, was acceptable. For the higher floors, there are three elevators and only one working for 38 floors for entire stay- literally wasting a quarter of an hour waiting for elevators each time. And once on, packed elevators. 4 thick, hard foam pillows- was told they didn’t have any down pillows, but then someone ended up bringing three down pillows up that were just horrible. The whole Albany Street side of the hotel smells from the gross dumpster they have inside their loading dock. And one of the elevators had this cookie in the corner throughout my two-night stay! As a Platinum member, I expect a lot from a Marriott. So when I say I’m very happy here, it does mean something. I checked in to this hotel 3 times in July, for a total of 9 nights. Always got a room on a high floor, with stunning views. Not many rooms on each floor, so the wait for the elevators was never long, which was very important to me. Plus elevators for lower and higher floors are separated, so you don’t have to stop at every floor when you try to get to work in the morning. Executive lounge is adequate. I say adequate as I just came back from Dubai where the Marriott executive lounge was like a full-service restaurant. That said, the thing that sets the lounge here apart from other locations is the staff. I love that is the same staff every time I go there. They recognize you and always make you feel welcome. It’s like coming home. It’s nice to see familiar faces. Thank you Eli, Irene, Dee Dee for always being great hosts. I missed out one lady’s name, but there’s a fourth there. Front desk staff are also very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. I only caught the names Geraldine and Adnan, but the whole team was wonderful. Location is hard to beat, especially if you enjoy walking. Close to many, many subway stations as well, so you can go to anywhere in the city, including the 3 main airports if you feel adventurous.
