The hotel

When it comes to ‘you-time’, Sheraton Brooklyn New York covers every kind of pleasure: there’s the fitness centre for the health-conscious; the Starbucks® café for the caffeine-hungry; and the rooftop garden for those in need of fresh air – and the odd cocktail. Sitting among the skyscrapers of Brooklyn, the Asian-infused Kimoto Rooftop & Bar gives a nod to the East in its carefully created bar food, curated craft beers, and concocted cocktails. Throw in views over the buzzing district and towards the Statue of Liberty, and you’ll see why it’s one of the hotel’s most popular meeting spots. In fact, it’s the perfect place to head after a day exploring your neighbourhood, which packs in dining, shopping, and entertainment – much of it just a stroll away at City Point Brooklyn.

The entry and lobby are very tired looking. The front entrance is just a heavy black metal double door that you pull open into a vestibule with another set of doors to open in order to reach the lobby. There's no one to help, and at one point I actually lent a hand to a mother with an infant by grabbing an empty luggage cart for her. The lobby's gold banquette shown in the picture is actually ripped in spots with stuffing coming through. The carpet is dull and dingy, and the atmosphere is dark. The elevators look the worse for wear. About the elevators, we could hear the cable scraping and making a metallic groan all night through the wall of our bathroom. I had to go to Target to buy earplugs to be able to sleep. I might have asked to change rooms, but looking at the situation, the hotel halls are narrow and short with four elevators and the rooms in alcoves around the elevators, or directly across, so you're probably going to hear some elevator noise wherever your room is. On the positive side, our room was clean and freshly decorated; the bathroom had very thick bath towels, plentifully supplied, and the lighting in the bathroom was bright. Housekeeping seems on top of their job, with the room made up early in the day and nicely done. I would not go back (and I would say buyer beware) unless or until there's a serious renovation. As a Titanium Elite Bonvoy member, I've had the pleasure of staying at many Sheraton properties across the country, but unfortunately, the Sheraton Brooklyn fell short of my expectations. The location is convenient, especially if you're heading to and from Manhattan, but the hotel itself is beginning to show its age. It could definitely use some updates to bring it up to par with other Sheraton hotels in major cities. There’s noticeable wear and tear, and overall it doesn’t provide the polished feel that I usually expect from the brand. Breakfast was perhaps the biggest disappointment. If it hadn't been free due to my status, I would have felt hard-pressed to pay for it. The options were limited and the quality was subpar, lacking the fresh and satisfying options I typically see at other Sheraton hotels. The Elite Concierge Lounge was also a letdown. It felt like an empty conference room with a coffee machine and a few granola bars—not the welcoming lounge experience I’m used to as an elite member. All in all, I would likely choose a different hotel for my next stay in Brooklyn. Read less

House Keeping saved my wife. My wife had her monthly come while on her trip and the house keeper Xiao Ping went out of her way and personally helped my wife by providing her support. She was incredibly helpful and kind. She went above the level of hospitability seen these days. She even came back on occasion to check on her and ask if she was… Read more

Ping is the loveliest cleaner I have ever met, going above and beyond to keep her guests happy. The service was excellent and I want to thank Ping for all of her help during my visit. As well as a tidy room, she was happy to help and answer any questions that I had, including how to use the coffee machine! Thanks Ping, for being a great cleaner… Read more
