W Miami Hotel

This is not my first time at this location but this time, we were not happy. The room was not clean, the wallpaper was peeling from the all, the carpet smelled like bad feet odor, the bathroom was not properly clean. That’s not the part that, the part is, I went down to the lobby to express my concerns so the gentleman at the front desk asked if he could make it right, I said yes. He said let me work on it. I’m on my way back home, never called to say hey, sorry there were no rooms available, nothing. The room was $600 per night and we stayed for 4 nights. No room service, internet, nothing and the restaurant closes at 3:30pm. Are you kidding me? If you are not going to have room service, keep the restaurant open. Very disappointed with the W. As a businessman that travels to Miami often, I would say this is the worst property to use as a hub to do a meeting at. Upon check in they demanded I have them a business card to honor the rate I booked. I work for one of the largest corporations in the world. Spoiler alert, I carry a virtual card which they did not accept. I had to open a laptop at the front desk to “prove” I work for them. So humiliating knowing in have been platinum or above with Marriott for 15 years. I used this site for a business meeting. Every Marriott in the country has standard pricing . Here they out source a simple tv monitor. Their vendor offered us a single monitor for $1500. The room rental was $675. I told them I’ll buy two tvs from wal mart and bring them in. Their outside vendor verbally agreed to a price reduction of $175. Then I get the bill three weeks later for $675. I never signed an agreement yet they are charging me. I do meetings all over the country and I have never met a more incompetent, rude, pretentious meetings group as this hotel. This was just our meeting. We attempted to do a happy hour and they wanted to charge thousands of dollars for a group of 10. We decided not to do anything organized. We showed up to the bar and we were the ONLY group there. W Hotels are supposed to stand out in terms of style and design but this one certainly does not. I would not go as far as saying that it's bland like a Sheraton or Marriott can be, but it definitely did not leave a "wow" impression like many other Ws can so it's one of the weaker Ws I have stayed at. The room has seen better days and was a bit dark. The most salient weakness of this hotel might be related to housekeeping which is not the most thorough. When I got to my room there was a dirty cloth hanging from the shower door and one pillow was out of place on the bed without a pillow case. There was also no bathrobe to be found. When I arrived at the hotel at 2pm I was told my room was not ready despite having informed the hotel ahead of time that I would arrive at 2pm, which is somewhat early check-in, but it is not a huge stretch to get a room at 2pm except if housekeeping is not diligent and if they don't prioritize the order in which they clean the rooms. This was in stark contrast to the day I checked out of W, I walked to Kimpton EPIC Hotel right across the street from W at 6am for VERY early check-in and I got my room keys immediately, and Kimpton did not even get the same advance heads up that I had given W about my arrival time. The only saving grace of this W was breakfast. The restaurant looked very nice and instead of offering a subpar buffet they have a very nice a la carte menu which I enjoyed. The avocado toast with roasted pumpkin seeds added a special twist to the dish and was not as boring as avocado toasts provided by many other hotels. Service in the restaurant was also worthy of the W brand so kudos to the staff there. In conclusion breakfast was the one aspect which had hints of luxury which the W brand is supposed to be, and prevents me from rating this W 2/5 overall, and I give 3/5 instead. Read less

It was mediocre which is not expected. W is a fun brand but the room was not amazing. The carpet felt dirty and old. It might not have been but it's about the vibe. It was disappointing that the room didn't come with slippers. The room was large and it's nice that it had a balcony. The table is glass so not the best for a mouse. Disappointed that there was no bar or food (temporary). Read less
