The hotel

The simplicity of Bequia Plantation Hotel is part of its beguiling beauty. An unpretentious space, the owners know the location’s all you could ever need – right on the wanderlust-satisfying sands of Admiralty Bay, whose glittering waters are graced by yachts, and just a stroll along Admiralty Walkway from Port Elizabeth. Its acres of tropical gardens are punctuated with towering coconut palms, charming cottages, a bay-view restaurant with an authentic brick pizza oven, and the hotel’s bijou but beautiful swimming pool – there for those odd occasions you’d rather not take your dips off one of Bequia’s beaches. Whether you stay in the main house or pick one of the suites or villas which nestle in the gardens, among the fruit trees, and even on the soft sands of Admiralty Bay, you’ll experience a chic blend of contemporary and Caribbean styling.

We visited for breakfast, as there was only one other place doing breakfast in Port Elizabeth in this off-season. A lovely table to sit beside the water, efficient service and an interesting breakfast menu. Coffee good too. The food was perhaps not quite as praiseworthy, though I enjoyed my local dish of salt fish, fried potato and sweet plantain.

We’ve just returned from our third stay here and have already booked to return. The overall ambience is great with little bungalows set within beautifully kept grounds and it’s own little bit of beach where you can swim amongst shoals of little fish and, if you’re lucky, you may also come across a turtle taking a little breather. The location means that everything is in easy walking distance, it’s a level walk into town and a relatively easy walk over the hill and along the walkway to Princess Margaret Beach and on to Lower Bay The food here has always been good especially the breakfast, our only gripe in previous years was that the menu in the evening meal lacked character but this year they have introduced various “themed” evenings and these were a definite improvement. What draws us to the hotel though is the staff, there was a mix of new and old faces this year and as other have said all the staff whether they be restaurant staff, room staff, front office staff, maintenance staff or gardening staff are all intent on giving you the best stay possible. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and can’t wait to return in November Read less

The attentive staff the themed evenings were good. The beach was tranquil and exceptional. We found lovely restaurants locally and a chartered boat to Mystique was awesome! Turtles everywhere and great restaurant /bar. We can't wait to go back! Carl & Alison Gravett

The room was clean, bed comfy, AC worked exceptionally well, etc. Grounds, common areas, and pool well maintained. Daily breakfast was awesome and a great way to start the day. We enjoyed the open air restaurant and the "stray dogs". Service excellent. Best of all, every staff we met were over-the-top in customer service and hospitality. I would suggest that any negative comments from other reviews originate with the reviewer and not indicative of BPH facility or staff. BPH is now our go-to hotel on island have recommended to family and friends. We will return. Read less

Characterful property, well located just a short stroll along the waterside boardwalk into town, lined with bars and restaurants. 5 mins in the other direction to Princess Margaret Beach. Buses stop outside for direct access to the wider island. Staff brilliant and friendly. Good sized pool and lovely little beach area with loungers, umbrellas and table service, plus decent snorkling. Fantastic dining area overlooking the bay. We stayed in the main house balcony room which was furnished with everything we needed, aside perhaps for some shade outdoors. Would stay again and recommend to others. Read less
