Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Virgin rating

The hotel

Lying on a beautiful, long stretch of private beach, the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa sits within 400 lush acres and is home to an 18th-century sugar plantation. A popular feature here is the iconic swimming pool but guests (kids' especially) also love the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark, which is the largest in Jamaica. Why not grab a tube and float down the ‘lazy river’ or try one of the slides. There’s also a daily kids' club, leaving you with time to recharge in the full-service spa, or why not try out the Championship golf course. A variety of restaurant options with fine dining and sophisticated wine lists are on-site, with the newly renovated Rum Factory a particular hit, as is the Three Palms, overlooking the beautifully landscaped golf course.

Please read through this comment as it contains important health warnings. We are a family of 4 with young kids and stayed at the hotel between Oct 30- Nov 6 2024. Hotel and food met our expectations for a Jamaican holiday (it was our 3rd time in Jamaica). Room was decent and well stocked, bedding clean, toiletries were nice, food was great, personnel was nice. The water park was a hit for both the kids and the adults. Our big complaint: THE BEACH. We are beach people so this was a bummer. The main beach near the pool was awful - small and uneven. Seaweed was a constant nuisance which they tried their best to get rid of. Water was very murky. It was windy and wavy, but still the water was way too murky. You could not even see your hands in the water, never mind the sandy bottom. We have been at other resorts before during storms and windy weather, but the waters were much clearer. The other beach was larger, but still dirty. Another big complaint: we got HOOKWORM in our feet from this hotel beaches. We never knew such thing existed. We had a hard time getting it treated in Canada, because it's considered a "tropical disease" and not all emergency rooms and pharmacies know how to deal with it. Doctors said the sand gets contaminated with hookworm larva from stray animals using it as their toilet. There were a lot of cats at the hotel, so this is most likely where it came from. Warning - wear shoes on the beach and don't play in the sand (especially dry sand that's further away from the water). The contaminated sand will infect any part of the body that touches it. Larva just gets into the skin, it apparently doesn't need a cut or open wound. Read less

Took a side trip to swim with dolphins. $800. The bus we took was falling apart and dang near hurt our backs. However the staff was well trained and liked their jobs. They told us the service elevators were broken as well and it was miserable working conditions. In my view stay away from this resort. We saved for this vacation with my daughter and grandkids. Imagine having three 10 and under little girls screaming in the hall outside their room and scared to sleep in that room. Two separate days. I complained but the came and sprayed and didn’t even service the room afterwards. It appears that management doesn’t care. We spent almost $9,000 for 9 days. Management did not care. Shame on them. Shame on them. STAYAWAY FROM THE HILTON Rose Hall resort. It’s a shame that they didn’t care. Read less

The resort is clean and very well maintained. We enjoyed our time at the lazy river, as well as in the carribiean sea. I have a pretty serious gluten allergy as well as an egg sensitivity. I never had a problem eating. The staff went above and beyond to make sure I could eat safely. The drinks were plentiful and very tasty. The rum punch is very strong. 😁 The jerk chicken with scotch bonnet was amazing. I could have eaten it everyday. The rum factory was delicious. Best food there, hands down. We ate at the Italian restaurant as well. Super tasty and very accommodating. A few things that could be inporoved. 1. The air conditioner is so loud when turing on and off. 2. Room service was very tasty and great to have, but it took almost 2 hrs sometimes. We plan to come back next October. 3. We felt like the breakfast buffet needed some additional variety. 4. Check-in was so slow. Like over 2hrs after a long day of travel. We did get an upgraded room for the wait. We like to tip as a sign of gratitude and to show respect for the service given. It was very much appreciated by the staff. We plan to retun next October. 😊 Read less

I went on vacation and got stung by a sting-ray, and I still have a severe injury that I am tending to. There were no life-guards on duty, there were no signs about sting-rays. This could have been a life-threatening emergency. Nobody cares about you here. The manager did not stop once to call in and help. I had to find them and ask what exactly would be done from my incident. I still haven't received compensation as my case is still being reviewed by an insurance company, and it is has been 2 weeks. Please believe me that you are on your OWN at this hotel. As a Black woman I didn't feel respected, safe, or understood. I do not recommend this hotel, and please take this as a warning. Go somewhere ELSE. Read the bad reviews. They are true. The Hilton name means absolutely nothing. Read less
