We had complete access to the gorgeous gardens. Tours of the house and self-guided museum are an extra cost. The house tour guide told us there were many weddings held on the grounds and the season for the weddings was about to begin. A hearty buffet breakfast at one of the restaurants, the Dixie Cafe, was included. The Dixie Cafe overlooks part of the gardens. We had a delicious dinner each night at the opulent Carriage House. The owner, Kevin Kelly, was out each day during our stay on his golf cart with his two friendly dogs. He is an amicable person who hosted an election night dinner for his friends at the Carriage House. We would highly recommend at stay at Houmas House. Read less

Interesting tour. Beautiful grounds. We visited at a very bad time. There were 5 busses of tourists from cruise ships. This really was problematic. We had a scheduled, ticketed time slot. We went to the appointed spot to meet our guide, who never showed up. They were suppose to ring a bell to alert those of us with tickets. It never happened.… Read more

We went to the appointed spot to meet our guide, who never showed up. They were suppose to ring a bell to alert those of us with tickets. It never happened. Eventually we went looking for a staff member and eventually got on a tour. My advice: when booking, try to avoid time slots which will be dominated by busses of tourists from cruise ships. Ask!! We also ate lunch there. They have a very nice buffet meal. Read less

The complementary breakfast buffet at the Dixie Cafe was perfectly executed with scrambled eggs, shrimp and grits and homemade biscuits to name a few. The gardens and the grounds were lovely to take walks and explore. The turtle bar which is in o e of the garconieres and connected to the Carriage House Restaurant was an enjoyable experience. The menu at the Carriage House Restaurant was well thought out with local dishes and excellent desserts. We will definitely be returning for another adventure. Read less
