Paradise Point Resort & Spa

San Diego, California

Virgin rating

The hotel

Overlooking spectacular Mission Bay in San Diego, you can really take advantage of the bayside setting here — chill out by the water or by one of the pools, go out in a sailboat or speedboat, or take surf lessons. Paradise Point is set on its own 44-acre island, with lush gardens and a mile-long white sand beach. One of the best things about it is that whilst its secluded spot makes you feel like you are a million miles away from it all, you're actually just minutes from downtown San Diego.

We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, the food was nice the first night we went to the posher restaurant (we didn’t realise until we saw the more affordable one) but service was amazing food (as shown in the picture) came out within 10 minutes of ordering. However when it came to paying you have a service charge on top of the tip you have to leave! The resort its self is very well kept and is lovely. The staff in the restaurant are nice too, and on the last night we went to the more affordable restaurant which again had amazing food, food took a little longer than the nights before but I think it was just because it was busy. The lady who showed us to our table was lovely she said she will book us in and it would be a 45 minute wait but ended getting us in sooner. The pools are nice but we only went in one of them, I don’t know about the rest of them but that one in particular seemed quite slippy getting into (I even witnessed a little boy and girl who was about 3 slip into the pool). The room was very spacious and clean, had shampoo and conditioner. But the ice machine was on the other side of our wall so throughout the night we could hear people coming to get ice, this kept us up. As we are on a road trip other hotels which we have stayed in put a lock on the ice machine after a certain time. We where also kept up by the air conditioning constantly turning its self on and off. We had maid service on the 2nd day but then never got another maid service again. Is maid service not included in the resort fees? When we asked at reception when checking out, the lady wasn’t much help she just said “it’s an additional fee but sometimes they do come in and make your beds”. When you first get to check in the hotel you are asked to sign the rules saying you will not bring food onto the premises that you have not bought from there. So when you go to the shop it’s $3 for a can of sprite and the same for 1/2 litres of milk, some of the prices in the shop are listed but others you get to the till and find out the cost for example a bag of chocolate was $12 and only found out when at the till! But in San Francisco we paid less than that and got double the size. If you are going to have this rule in place at least lower your prices especially if you are going to have hidden costs everywhere. If you come in a vehicle be prepared to pay a parking fee of $44 per night! Additionally we have later discovered upon leaving (through their website) after being charged a $40 leisure fee that volleyball and tennis, etc is free but upon arrival we where not made aware of this. The location is very nice a good quick walk into town from both directions. Read less

My family of four really enjoyed our whole experience at Paradise Point. The staff were friendly and professional, the grounds were so pretty (lots of beautiful flowers and foliage), the pools were super fun, the room was clean and pretty, and the water sports rental process was easy. We'd definitely return for another visit!

My wife and I had an amazing time for our ten year anniversary trip. We received a room upgrade the day before our checkin with an amazing view of paradise cove. We also highly recommend the mini golf! The course was full of different adventure each day. Plus five different pools to choose from added such a variety to a standard hotel pool.
