Royalton Antigua, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort

Each year my wife and I committed to at least 1 vacation per year. We have been to Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Aruba, Costa Rica, Bahama to name a fews. This year we chose Royalton Antigua. We love to travel to different country because we like to explore new culture exploring some native food arts and crafts. We did read reviews from travelers sho stayed at this before we travelled there. I saw mixed reviews but I gave it a benefit of the doubt. So as I got there i read the sign and it was a luxury resort. So as I checked in the room was a decent size room but there was nothing luxury about it in comparing to other resorts I have been to. Guests are divided into two groups the regular, which are being treated like a second class citizens and those of the Diamond Club which earned the write to everything. I admit the resort has a beautiful scenery . Nice beach and pools. It has only 4 restaurants plus a buffet and a sport bar. It has only three bars that includes swim up bar. Services was terrible especially if you are not Diamond Club guess. People who works there seems miserable and unfriendly. Most of the guest check in staffs are rude and confrontational to the guests. The seemed to stick up for one another that include the guy boss ( tall and ball ). One of the host at the steak house was also mean. And the host by the name of Kayson at the buffet earns the gold in being mean and rude to the guests from my observation. There are plenty more I can say about this resort but I said more than enough. I don’t normally write a review about my travel experiences especially the bad one but I just don’t want anyone to make the same mistake I made in staying at this resort. There are plenty of resorts that look better makes you feel better with all the amenities with better foods and great services that one deserve on their vacation. I can’t tell anyone what country to go or what resort to stay but I just want to share my one bad experience in traveling in the honest way so you can make informed decisions with your future travel plan. My time at the Royalton Antigua Resort was beyond phenomenal. But first I’d like to start off by saying… THE BAD REVIEWS ARE FABRICATED LIES! They’re written in the distasteful manner they’re in bc they lack respect in themselves thus projecting it onto others. I’ve seen these people firsthand for myself during my stay and the way they treat the staff should get them banned from hotels and completely invalidates their claims. They also lack knowledge and do no real research on way of life in the Caribbean or the country they’re visiting ultimately blinding themselves with a tainted perspective on how to behave and carry themselves while being respectful of the Antiguan peoples home & land. Now into the review. I stayed at this beautiful property for my 25th birthday as my 1st international solo trip. From the moment I stepped out the airport transfer the staff was very welcoming and accommodating(s/o Candy for the welcoming beverage). My room was very clean & beautifully decorated to celebrate my special occasion. The day of my birthday I started my day with yoga on the beach with the gorgeous Royalton fit Queen J’amalyn. She effectively explained the steps, guided/helped us with our poses and really helped us especially me reach optimal zen. I truly felt a difference & continued going to her yoga classes during my stay. But that’s not all she does to help you stay Royalton fit, she also teaches aqua fit. Whether your a beginner like me, intermediate or even expert, she’s an excellent instructor to learn from & makes you feel at ease while also gently pushing you at whatever level you’re at. So whether it’s yoga or aqua fit make sure you take a class with J’amalyn or youll miss out on feeling your physical and mental best while on your stay. Later on I went to the spa. Temi was super helpful & kind to help me through the process of booking, confirming & paying for my services. Gabrielle was very accommodating when showing me how to use the locker room and the various amenities within the spa while I waited for my massage. She was also very kind to continuously check on me. During my stay I got 2 massages: the athletic & regenerative. My 1st masseuse Ariel?! Absolutely amazing!!! No lie, it was the best massage of my life(I go very often & have experienced many) and was lucky to experience such phenomenon on my birthday! So make sure if she’s available you book with her. Throughout the day, staff would tell me happy birthday, asked me how my day was going and did little things(even throughout the rest of my stay) to make my day special, which was super kind & definitely puts all those concocted reviews about staff being rude or disrespectful to rest. The vibe team members such as Richard, Maliki, and my top faves Shamoy (my bad if I spell it wrong) and Vernon made my birthday and stay top tier with their constant shower of celebration! Also if you need breathe taking photos Vernon has a great eye! The food was really good as well. The crab cake a Peruvian chicken I had at the stake house was delicious as was the food at the buffet & other restaurants. Although I will say that I wish there were more meat options like veggie, turkey or beef bacon/sausage at breakfast. All in all my stay here was astronomically amazing & will forever be memorable. I'm usually a laid-back and easygoing person, but my stay at this resort was a mixed bag. The staff was super friendly, which is typical of most resorts. The buffet was the only food option that truly impressed me - the selection was great! However, the other sit-down restaurants looked appealing but served subpar food. The hotel itself reminded me of a larger La Quinta Inn, but it lacked any luxurious touches. Be wary of the resort's off-site excursions, as they come with a hefty price tag. Specifically, avoid the Shirley Heights excursion, which costs a pretty penny just for transportation (per person). The food at Shirley Heights was overpriced and not good..at all, and the venue felt like a tourist trap. The locals were friendly, which is the only reason I'm giving this resort 2 stars instead of 1. Tips: Stick to the buffet for food Avoid off-site excursions, especially Shirley Heights Be prepared for high prices outside the resort Don't expect luxury amenities at the Royalton Antigua Read less

This experience was truly memorable. Although it began a bit rocky with a late check-in, everything turned around when Paul became our butler. He exceeded all expectations, ensuring the rest of our trip was absolutely fantastic. Paul was incredibly professional and attentive to our every need, handling all our reservations and organizing our departure transportation. The hotel's dining options were enjoyable, particularly Scores and the Diamond Club Lounge. The beach was pristine, and the bartenders at the swim-up bar, especially Indiana, were exceptional mixologists. I would happily return for another stay. If you decide to book, I highly recommend requesting Paul as your butler and letting Indiana craft you a drink by the pool. Read less
