The hotel

This lovely hotel sits on its own 100-acre peninsula at the southeast point of the island, just a 10-minute drive from Nelson's Dockyard with its historical buildings, museum and bars. There are two beaches, one for non-motorised water sports and the other for enjoying refreshing ocean breezes. The resort boasts five open-aired restaurants and one grill; most fêted of these is Piccolo Mondo, the resort's fine dining Mediterranean style restaurant in the village section, while the attractive waterside Docksider does a great Caribbean buffet each Thursday in alfresco surrounds. For a real treat, Royal Suites feature a king size bed with sunken living room, glass sliding doors to a private balcony and expansive bathrooms with deep soaking tubs and his and hers showers! A boardwalk also takes you from the suites right into the heart of Mamora Bay, perfect for strolling along in the moonlight! If plenty of home-from-home comforts appeal, choose a villa instead of a hotel room at St James's Club. Cheerful and bright, they feature warm Caribbean tones and terracotta tiles throughout. They're also very generous on space so are ideal for families and groups of friends.

Our AC did not work the first 2 days, however, maintenance did fix it but the first two nights were hot sleeping. Toilet in room did not flush correctly and again had to call maintenance, which did not fully fix the issue. Food was ok, not good, not bad just ok, think Golden Corral for US standards. Staff was friendly but way understaffed. Quivern was amazing and was the only true staff member that tried to interact above and beyond. Overall the resort is huge and feels less intimate than others. Food options were sparse and spread out making it inconvenient. Loved the location just not the resort. Read less

SJC is set in a stunning location with views to die for. We stayed in a reef suite which was newly decorated and furniture and bedding are of a high standard. There is a variety of restaurants with something to suit all tastes . The staff at SJC are amazing a special mention to Cressida at the Reef Pool Bar and Joanne at the Coffee Bar . Unfortunately my husband had a couple of medical issues and i cannot thank enough the way the staff handled the situation. A thank you to Peter the duty manager for calling the doctor and Shaneal for looking after my husband until the ambulance arrived. A massive heartfelt thanks to Marissa and Charlene the guest service managers for their amazing care and concern truly over and above their job requirements. We will be eternally grateful to you both. All being well we will be back next year. Read less

Once again their greatest asset is the staff. They are understaffed and are trying to recruit but the staff work incredibly hard especially the restaurant staff and never stop working- - shout outs to Cresidda at the Reef Pool Bar - such a good move to have her there instead of Mamora Bay Bar and Chad at Jackaranda bar was a delight- such a funny man. I had a fall walking up to the reef pool from the Reef Suites - no fault of the hotels but they couldn’t have been more helpful- called a doctor and Merissa the guest ambassador took my husband in her car to the pharmacy to get a sling for my injured arm - thank you lovely lady (by the way had an xray on my return to U.K. and I have broken my elbow!!) All in all lovely place and has a lovely atmosphere- cya next year!! Read less

We spent two wonderful weeks in Antigua earlier in October 2024 and wanted to thank the wonderful staff who made our stay so memorable. When we arrived we were shown to our 1st floor beach view room which was very comfy and had everything you could need: Large King bed with nice linens, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, dual sinks in the bathroom, bath and shower combination. We were checked in and finally out by Keanaleen and Calica who checked in with each time we passed the reception desk, nothing was too much trouble. The food was great being able to chose different restaurants each night was nice we particularly liked the Rainbow restaurant for Italian night and Docksider for roast dinner on Sunday evening. Shout out to some of the servers Letoya, T'wanna, Vanessa, Luinda. Breakfasts were taken in Rainbow with Michal the smoothly maker par excellence! Lunch times were spent at 11/11 good choice of food - from pizzas to fresh fish. We had a wonderful evening at Piccolo Mondo in the 1st week and it was wonderful - the food was amazing and the drinks expertly mixed by Vincent! My only minor point due to the heat wave during our stay in Antigua the restaurant was extremely hot (being a lady of a certain age) and I would have preferred to have sat under a fan. Each evening we could return after dinner to the Jacaranda and Chad was there serving drinks. The resort has a 24 hour coffee shop serving coffee, tea, snacks and chilled beverages and our star staff member there was Joeanne who always was happy to brew my iced tea. We booked 2 trips through the resort both of which we thought were good value - the Pink Panther safari and the trip of Stingray City to swim with the stingrays of the island. Pools - we stayed mainly by the main pool Reef Deck Bar and plentiful towels available. Beaches we spent time on and swam in the sea on both sides of the spit of the resort. We thought the resort was great - there is some building work going updating rooms but the builders were polite and noise was minimal. Finally a big shout out to our wonderful cleaner Heather who kept the room spotless - checking back in with us on one day when my husband was unwell due to a pre-existing health condition and we needed to stay in the room. She brought us more coffee and tea and made sure we had everything we needed. We would love to return and have started saving for 2025!! thanks Read less
