The hotel

A charming inn, Alpenhof Lodge is the nearest in town to the Main Lodge, and it’s also the closest to the new gondola to Canyon Lodge – adjacent to the village at Mammoth, with its shops, bars and restaurants. Onsite, the Clocktower Cellar bar serves over 160 whiskies, a great selection of beer from all over the world, and an eclectic pub menu. It also has a pool table, table football, electronic games and a jukebox. Petra's Bistro & Wine Bar offers over 30 different wines by the glass and a menu featuring seasonal California cuisine. The Mammoth Brewing Company is opposite the hotel, with its microbrewery and regular live music and dancing, and the surrounding areas are filled with things to do — making this an exceptional place to stay, any time of the year.

We booked a queen room, #428, which is behind the row of rooms facing the front/parking lot. It was upstairs (no elevators) with a nice view of trees and was quiet. It is definitely an older place, but it was well-maintained and furnished with all you need, albeit spartan. Our room was indeed very small, but that was our booking choice. Very clean, a fair cost, great front office service, gave fantastic tourist advice! The location was perfect. The bed could possibly be the most uncomfortable one I've ever slept in and the pillows were hard and flat. The TV is small and mounted awkwardly for viewing. It would have been nice to have a microwave oven as restaurant prices are very high. The hamburger place door was really good and affordable! The adjoining German restaurant is now closed. The bar/spa (strange combo) does serve food. With this said I would come here again and felt they carried out what they advertised well. Read less

We would have preferred to stay closer to Mono Lake but didn’t see any good options. Our room was nice and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. Like Yosemite, we had to take any food inside because of bears. We were not expecting that. Be aware there are stairs into the lodge and then more stairs once inside. And altitude. Dining options… Read more

Considering it was summertime, the room was comfortable with the provided fan with the windows open. The design of the hotel's main building will require you to climb some stairs. The hotel is located on the edge of the village. It was a short walk to all the shops, restaurants, and bars. The drive to the Main Lodge and other points of interest in Mammoth Lakes was 10 to 15 minutes away. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room had a small refrigerator and a generic coffee maker, which we used every morning, but no microwave. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, but we did not try them. We would consider staying here again. Read less

Very good 5 day stay. Within walking distance of Bluesapalooza music fest. Decent price. Good amenities (in room coffee and refrigerator and microwave available in main building). Good cable TV menu. Comfortable bed. Clean and quiet in a scenic setting. Free WiFi and parking.
